Project activities

The VIS staff is committed to continuous improvement and actively seeks opportunities to develop their own professional skills as well as share their knowledge and experience with colleagues in Lithuania and abroad. One way we do this is by participating in various projects funded by the European Union and Nordic countries.

VIS is currently involved in the following:

1. European Regional Development Fund Project Capital Renovation, Reconstruction and Expansion of the  Learning Facilities of Vilnius International School“.

A part of this 2,7 million Litas project which is expected to commence in the Fall of 2012,VIS will renovate an additional  900 sq.m. space in the three buildings situated along the perimeter of the school yard: Latako g. 4, Latako g. 6, and Rusų g. 3.  The buildings will house the classrooms of the VIS middle school, specialized science and computer laboratories, library, art centre and other facilities.    The renovation is expected to be completed in early 2103 school year.

2. European Social Fund Project “Transferring and integrating the principles and methodology of holistic learning as in the IB model into the context of the Lithuanian education“.

VIS, together with three other prestigious schools and eight regional education centers throughout Lithuania, are actively working to expand best practice and develop a network of IB schools throughout the country. VIS has had the opportunity to participate in IB training in multiple formats, which included in-school workshops, on-line courses and participation in seminars and conferences throughout Europe.

We have also shared our experience with peers through train-the-trainer workshops, distribution of best practice by translating and publishing three books into Lithuanian, preparing training materials to promote the establishment of a healthy school culture and developing a parent education program module aimed at introducing parents to changes in pedagogy and the benefits of accepting change.

3. NORDPLUS Project “Creativity and Thinking Skills: TRIZ Model

VIS teachers, Giedrė Juodytė and Deirdre Jennings, have been working with colleagues throughout the Baltics and Scandinavia to develop a framework for integrating creativity and thinking skills into the educational process starting with pre-school through higher education.

In the process of designing the framework, our teachers traveled to Finland, Norway and Latvia to collaborate with project partners. In May, VIS hosted 25 educators and representatives of the Ministry of Education for demonstration lessons aimed at introducing their work as it relates to early childhood and science. Needless to say, both the teachers and their students made VIS proud!

Giedre and Deirdre will present their culminating work at an international conference in Riga, Latvia on September 14th and 15th. You can register by accessing this link.

4. NORDPLUS Project “Preparing Students for Democracy in Europe”

VIS is the lead coordinator in a mobility project aimed at comparing models of student government with students at partner schools in Denmark and Finland. The planning phase will take place this autumn in Oulu, Finland.
