Vilnius International School was authorised as an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School in 2010. It is the first and only  school in Lithuania to offer the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP).

IB mission statement:

The International Baccalaureate® aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.

To this end the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment.

These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.

The Primary Years Programme (PYP) accommodates children ages 3 through 11. Students ages 11-16 study in the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) of which VIS became an authorized school in 2013. The IB values high educational standards, promotes a student-centered approach to learning and actively fosters the development of socially responsible young citizens.

VIS has chosen to follow IB because we believe that it provides a framework that promotes academic rigor, as well as international understanding and responsible citizenship.

The Lithuanian Ministry of Education fully recognizes IB programmes as meeting the national education requirements. The Ministry actively supports the proliferation of the IB throughout the Lithuanian school system.

VIS has adopted the Lithuanian national curriculum as the basis for the development of the MYP Programme at VIS. The Lithuanian programme is designed to around concepts and broad understandings that are reflective of MYP objectives.

At VIS, we seek to equip children with the skills to meet the demands of an increasingly complex global society and the integrity to meet those demands with more than their own self-interest at heart.” – VIS Director, Rebecca Juras.
